Federal refugee plan draws fire

The federal government’s proposal to fast-track the refugee selection process will put civil servants in charge of deciding the outcome of life-and-death cases in six months and leave those with rejected claims facing deportation in a year, say angry community groups and immigration workers. A number of vocal community leaders and immigration advocates staged a rally on Wednesday to blast proposed changes to the selection process introduced on Tuesday by Immigration Minister Jason Kenney.
