Foreign observers on election to arrive in Sri Lanka

A group of foreign observers are to arrive in Colombo Thursday to observe the next week parliamentary election, local monitoring groups said. Some sixteen observers representing Japan, Bangladeshan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Afghanistan and Thailand have been invited by the local monitoring group, People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) "They will be deployed from Friday until April 10 to cover pre and post election periods", Rohana Hettiarachchi the PAFFREL executive director told reporters. Center for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) said that five of their foreign observers arriving on Friday would be involved in pre-election monitoring. [ full story ]
