Eastern University students protest pass

Hundreds of students from the Eastern University picketed in Vantharumoolai for nearly an hour from 10.30 a.m. today, condemning the Government's proposed travel pass system for the Batticaloa District.
All transport was brought to standstill due to the student protest, which was organised by the Students Union of the Eastern University. Hundreds of students from all faculties participated in the picketing sources said.
The proposed pass system is an attempt by the Government to divide the north and east provinces, the students allege in a handbill issued by them, and called upon all citizens of the Batticaloa District to support their campaign.
